Franz Bernhard
Grant Exhibition Hall
With over 30 works, some of them large-format, from the collection of the Morat Institute (Freiburg), the Kunstmuseum Heidenheim commemorates one of the most important representatives of abstract-autonomous sculpture in Germany.
In the 1970s, Franz Bernhard (1934 – 2013) developed an original form of autonomous sculpture that convincingly combines purely geometric forms with figurative abstraction.
Based on the motifs of head, body and postures, the Heidenheim exhibition provides an insight into the specific approach and expressive world of a sculptor whose work has unjustly fallen out of the focus of the art world in recent years.
