German Pop Art Reloaded

Grant Exhibition Hall

Pop Art revolutionised the art world at the beginning of the 1960s. Young artists such as Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann and Roy Lichtenstein countered the abstraction or non-objectivity that prevailed at the time with images and pictorial motifs that they had taken from everyday life, the world of the media or advertising. With their striking and easy-to-understand works, they quickly gained a firm place in art history and in the hearts of the public, who still love the colourful and seemingly affirmative images of (once) modern everyday life. For some years now, there have been collectors in Heidenheim who have dedicated themselves to this popular direction of modern art. They are now parting with their treasures for the first time in order to present them to the public in the art museum. The works – mainly American Pop Art prints – provide an interesting insight into the development and diversity of this style.
