On the occasion of the Reformation anniversary, the Kunstmuseum Heidenheim is presenting Marc Chagall’s religious work in the medium of graphic art, centred on his 105 etchings on the Bible. Due to his Jewish confession of Hasidic character, Chagall achieved very personal depictions in this cycle, which still touch us today. In addition to the Bible cycle, the colourful lithograph series on the story of the Exodus, the Verve Bible and the designs for the stained glass for Jerusalem are on display. The Chagall show is complemented by an exhibition of wooden sculptures of Christian folk art from Poland, whose anti-academic style shows parallels to Chagall’s work.
