Rolf Nikel

Etchings

Small Exhibition Hall

The artist Rolf Nikel (Bühlerzell near Schwäbisch Hall) gives the time-honoured printing technique of etching a previously unknown size and expressiveness. Instead of using etching needles and small-format printing plates, he prefers to work with an electric rotary grinder and metre-long metal plates. He uses these to produce huge printing plates, which he then prints onto paper and cuts out. Rolf Nikel uses the abstract formal elements thus obtained as compositional elements for his wall-filling works, which show large, mostly geometric forms. In the process, his wall works often turn out to be so large that they become room-filling installations. He is now presenting two such space-related installations at the Kunstmuseum Heidenheim.
