In 2025, Kinder und Kunst in Heidenheim e.V. (KiKu) celebrates its 40th anniversary. Reason enough to celebrate this with an exhibition. Anyone familiar with KiKu and its activities will know that this cannot, of course, be a “classic” exhibition of works. Rather, an interactive experience space is to be created in Hellenstein Castle, which will be permanently transformed by the public and the cooperation with numerous associations, institutions, schools and kindergartens in the city.

Welcome to Wolkenstein Castle, the place where creativity is written in capital letters and imagination is a prerequisite for your stay.

Right at the entrance: Enter the rabbit hole. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, this is where the journey into the wonderful world of the castle begins. A self-printed ticket and the matching fantastic clothing set the mood for further discovery. The way up leads past a giant dragon, a magic tree and other wondrous creatures, including some very small ones.

One floor higher, in the Obervogtei Hall, a constantly changing labyrinth with various adventure chambers awaits those eager to explore. Some are already finished at the beginning of the exhibition, such as a darkroom, a cuddle room or various art cabinets, while others are created over time in cooperation with a wide variety of actors. There will be insights into history, doll’s houses and literature. The installations will be enlivened by performances, dance, music or fencing demonstrations.

The aim of the anniversary presentation is, on the one hand, to make KiKu’s creative potential visible to the outside world and to invite people to experience the creative spirit of the institution for themselves. On the other hand, Hellenstein Castle is to be questioned as a location. What formats are possible here? How can the historic rooms be used in the future? Is it possible to establish the castle even more strongly as a place of identification for the local population?
